A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Prince Paul Ikonne, has urged Governor Alex Otti to stop using the name of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, for political publicity.
Ikonne said instead of seeking attention through sensitive national issues, Governor Otti should focus on governance and provide transparent accountability to the people of Abia State.
The APC chieftain made the call in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja by his Chief Press Secretary, Ujo Justice.

He accused the governor of exploiting emotional issues to divert attention from what he described as a growing record of underperformance and questionable financial management.
“It is unfortunate that rather than giving Abians a transparent account of how public funds are being utilised, Governor Otti has chosen to play politics with the emotions of the people by dragging the name of Nnamdi Kanu into his failing government narrative,” Ikonne said.
He questioned the sincerity of the governor, demanding clarification on the alleged N54 billion “Smart School” project and the N6 billion “Recreational Centre” reportedly executed by the state government.
“If truly these projects exist, why were they not commissioned during the governor’s recent public show of some rehabilitated roads? Why does every report from Abia Government House end up as social media content with no substance on the ground?” Ikonne queried.
On the issue of Nnamdi Kanu, Ikonne accused the governor of hypocrisy, noting that Otti had shown no tangible concern about the IPOB leader’s plight until recently.
“For more than two years in office, Governor Otti never paid a visit, never made a concrete intervention, and never demonstrated any concern about Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s situation.
Now that his government’s credibility is collapsing, he suddenly remembers Kanu. That is hypocrisy at its peak,” he stated.
InfoStride News reports that Governor Otti had recently expressed optimism that Nnamdi Kanu, who has been in detention since his rearrest in Kenya in June 2021, would soon regain freedom.
