Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has explained the reasoning behind benching Benjamin Sesko against Liverpool at Anfield. He recently had his say while speaking to the press, and fans have been reacting.
According to him, the characteristics of the match often dictate how he approaches it, and Cunha through the middle made the most sense to him against Liverpool.

Amorim added that the victory at Anfield is his biggest win yet as Manchester United manager.
His words, “Especially in the bad moments you have to go with your gut. The most important thing for a manager. Sometimes the characteristics of the game change the way we approach it. Cunha in the middle, if we put Ben it is easier for these kinds of centre-backs to control our striker.
Of course it is really important. I don’t have many wins in Manchester. Every detail of this game, the spirit when we suffer a bad moment, all the small things, perfect. Let’s try to do that next week.”
On the victory, “I think that was the biggest win in my time at Manchester United, it means a lot today but tomorrow it won’t mean a lot, it’s three points and it’s a good victory. We fought for every ball, we lost our composure in the second half but the spirit was there and that is the most important thing, if you have the spirit you can win any game. It was a good day and now I am concerned about Brighton.
We just saw the game and knew how important our set pieces are and the guys that have more experiences are on in the beginning. Every time we play in this environment well, if you block well in the beginning you can feel the defence turning and we feel that in our stadium and all the big teams feel that. A good win. It will give us more confidence through the week and pleasure to our fans, they deserve it and that is in our hands. This is in the past, now it’s time to look at the future.”
WOW.
Manchester United Football Club, commonly referred to as Man United or simply United, is a professional football club based in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, England. The club competes in the Premier League, the top division in the English football league system.
Nicknamed the Red Devils, they were founded as Newton Heath LYR Football Club in 1878, but changed their name to Manchester United in 1902. After a spell playing in Clayton, Manchester, the club moved to their current stadium, Old Trafford, in 1910.
Alex Ferguson and his assistant Archie Knox arrived from Aberdeen on the day of Atkinson’s dismissal, and guided the club to an 11th-place finish in the league. Despite a second-place finish in 1987–88, the club was back in 11th place the following season. Reportedly on the verge of being dismissed, Ferguson’s job was saved by victory over Crystal Palace in the 1990 FA Cup final.
The following season, Manchester United claimed their first UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup title. That triumph allowed the club to compete in the European Super Cup for the first time, where United beat European Cup holders Red Star Belgrade 1–0 at Old Trafford. The club appeared in two consecutive League Cup finals in 1991 and 1992 the left and the right, but he’s not got any sense of danger yet, and empties the midfield area too readily.
