A member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, National Executive Committee (NEC), Maryam Inna Ciroma, has explained why the party’s national chairman should come from the North.
Speaking on Prime Time, a programme on Arise Television monitored by newsmen on Thursday, Ciroma stated that since the PDP zoned its presidential ticket to the South, it is only fair that the chairmanship position goes to the North.
She said, “Actually, PDP zones positions and rotates them every four years between the North and the South.

Since the zoning committee agreed that the president will come from the South, it then follows that the chairman of the party must come from the North.”
Ciroma further disclosed that Northern leaders of the party recently met to review the zoning arrangement sent to the region.
According to her, “The Northern consensus had a meeting last Friday on the zoning arrangement. Normally, it’s also micro-zoned and rotated.
So, we agreed at the caucus meeting that positions allocated to North Central will now move to North West, North West to North East, and North East to North Central.”
She added that by this arrangement, the chairmanship position should be occupied by someone from the North Central, despite Illiya Damagun’s confirmation as acting chairman.
“We all agreed that the North West and North Central will meet to decide which zone in the North should produce the party chairman. They met and endorsed former Minister Tanimu Turaki,” Ciroma stated.
