The 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has predicted that the 2027 general elections will be the most competitive and challenging in Nigeria’s democratic history.
Kwankwaso made the prediction in an interview with BBC Hausa, noting that Nigerians are now more politically conscious and determined to change their living conditions.
“I believe the 2027 elections will be much tougher. People are now more informed, more concerned, and more involved. Everyone is seeking a way out because of the country’s current situation,” he said.

The former Kano State governor attributed the growing political awareness to the influence of radio and social media, which he said have made it easier for citizens to access information and hold leaders accountable.
“Thanks to radio and social media, the masses now know more. You may see things that have never happened before in Nigeria’s electoral history. People will not sell their votes this time; they want real change,” Kwankwaso added.
InfoStride News reports that Kwankwaso, who served as governor of Kano State, finished fourth in the 2023 presidential election behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP).
