The Kwara State Ministry of Environment on Saturday sealed a cold room in Ilorin, the state capital, for selling spoilt fish to unsuspecting members of the public.
The state Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge, confirmed the action in a statement, noting that the ministry’s enforcement officers acted promptly to protect public health.
“Our officers have done the needful by halting further sale, confiscating the items, and sealing the premises,” Buge said.

She warned business owners to desist from selling or distributing unwholesome products, describing such acts as inhuman, ungodly, and contrary to the law.
The commissioner commended residents of the state for actively participating in the monthly environmental sanitation and bush-clearing exercise, which took place across communities on Saturday.
Buge urged residents to continue prioritising hygiene and public health by keeping their surroundings clean, joining regular sanitation exercises, and reporting any suspicious or harmful environmental practices to the ministry or law enforcement agencies.
Saturday’s sanitation exercise was monitored by the Chairman, Kwara State House Committee on Environment, Omotosho AbdulRazaq, and the General Manager of the Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency, Hon. Jide Aina.
Both officials interacted with community groups and associations during the exercise to encourage greater public participation in environmental sanitation across the state.
