The Kebbi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the reported adoption of former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, as the northern consensus candidate for the party’s national chairmanship.
The rejection followed an emergency meeting of the state chapter held in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday.
In a statement read by the PDP Publicity Secretary, Sani Dododo, the chapter described the decision by northern PDP governors to endorse Turaki as unilateral and made without proper consultation.

“Kabiru Tanimu has never consulted the Kebbi State chapter about his intention to contest. He has not participated in any party activities in the state,” Dododo stated.
He added that the Kebbi PDP aligns with the position of North-West stakeholders that every state should have the right to deliberate and nominate candidates in line with the party’s zoning arrangement.
“Naturally, the Kebbi State chapter rejects the decision to adopt the former Minister of Special Duties as the party’s consensus candidate,” he said.
It was earlier reported that northern PDP leaders had endorsed Turaki as the consensus candidate for the upcoming National Elective Convention scheduled for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The endorsement reportedly took place at a meeting in Abuja attended by PDP governors, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, the party’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and other northern stakeholders.
