The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that 6,879 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines have been fully configured and are ready for deployment ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra State.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, made this known on Tuesday during the 2025 Anambra Governorship Election Stakeholders’ Meeting held at the Prof. Dora Akunyili Memorial Centre, Awka.

Amupitan said that out of the 13 activities scheduled for the election, 11 have been successfully completed, with only the end of campaigns (midnight, Thursday, November 6) and election day (Saturday, November 8) remaining.
He assured stakeholders that the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) is fully functional and results will be uploaded in real time, with the winner announced promptly.
“As of this moment, 11 out of the 13 scheduled activities have been successfully implemented,” he said.
“The Commission has published the final list of 16 candidates contesting the election, and any candidate whose name was not published will not participate.”
Amupitan disclosed that the final register of voters for the election stands at 2,802,790, following a thorough clean-up of the database. He noted that 168,187 new registrations were recorded, while 27,817 invalid multiple entries were removed, leaving 140,370 valid new voters.
He added that 5,983 voter transfers were approved and that political parties have already received soft copies of the voter register.
The INEC Chairman also revealed that 3,456 persons with disabilities (PWDs) will be participating in the election, reaffirming the Commission’s commitment to inclusivity.
Speaking at the meeting, Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, represented by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of Force Intelligence, Benjamin Okolo, assured that security agencies would remain civil but firm in maintaining law and order.
He warned against electoral violence and voter inducement, urging political actors to focus on persuasion rather than provocation.
Earlier, the Supervising National Commissioner and Chairman, Tenders Board Committee, Dr. Ken Ukeagu, disclosed that 114 domestic observers and 76 media organizations have been accredited for the election.
He confirmed that 24,000 ad hoc staff have been trained and deployed, adding that voters without their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) will not be allowed to vote.
In her remarks, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Anambra State, Queen Elizabeth Agwu, reaffirmed that all systems and logistics are ready, assuring voters of a credible, transparent, and peaceful election.
