The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has alleged that some unnamed politicians have hired armed thugs to disrupt the scheduled visit of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle.
The party’s Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris, raised the alarm on Wednesday while briefing journalists in Gusau. He said the alleged plot was aimed at undermining Matawalle’s homecoming event set for Thursday.
Idris said the state APC had concluded all arrangements to receive the minister, who is expected to meet party leaders, members and supporters in Gusau and his hometown, Maradun.

“Unfortunately, we have received credible information that there is a serious, destructive plan for the minister’s visit,” he said.
He alleged that thugs had been hired to attack the minister’s convoy and cause unrest along the Gusau–Maradun route, particularly around the Tsafe axis.
The party urged members to remain peaceful and avoid carrying weapons during the visit.
“We are therefore warning our members against carrying any type of weapon throughout the minister’s visit and beyond, to ensure peace and order,” Idris stated.
He also called on security agencies to investigate the alleged plot and ensure that anyone attempting to cause violence is arrested and prosecuted.
