The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has dissolved its structures in Imo, Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom and Rivers States.
InfoStride News reports that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, moved the motion for the dissolution during the party’s national convention in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, as part of efforts to validate executives elected through congresses conducted nationwide.

Makinde explained that congresses held between 2024 and 2025 produced officers at the ward, local government, state and zonal levels, including national ex-officio members.
He noted that the exercises were peaceful and largely compliant with the Electoral Act 2022, the PDP constitution, and internal party guidelines.
He stated that both the National Executive Committee, NEC, and the National Working Committee, NWC, had earlier endorsed the outcomes of the congresses and the officials elected through the process.
However, despite those endorsements, Makinde said the party had resolved to disband its structures in the five affected states.
“In the case of Imo, Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom and Rivers, the convention hereby dissolves all party structures at the ward, local government and state levels. The convention has authorised the publication of this decision to serve as formal notice to the public,” he said.
The motion was seconded by the National Auditor and member of the NWC, Daniel Okechukwu, marking the formal adoption of the resolution by the convention.
