Residents and traders along the Arakale axis of Akure, the Ondo State capital, were on Wednesday thrown into panic after thugs fatally stabbed a Police Inspector during a dispute.
The suspects, identified by the police as Shina Jacob, 25, and Felix Olalekan, 32, allegedly attacked the officer amid an altercation at Oke-Arata, a busy trading hub in the city.
The development comes days after a personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) was stabbed to death in the Oba-Ile area of Akure by a mentally unstable man.

Sources said the slain inspector had recently been transferred from the Ondo State Police Command’s Anti-Cultism Unit to B-Division before the attack.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Olayinka Ayanlade, said the officer was rushed to hospital after sustaining stab wounds but later died while receiving treatment.
Ayanlade added that both suspects have since been arrested and will be arraigned in court for prosecution.
He said: “An altercation ensued between the officer and some recalcitrant individuals, during which he was tragically stabbed.”
“The unfortunate incident triggered a coordinated police response. Acting swiftly, the Commissioner of Police deployed operatives to the scene, leading to the arrest of two suspects directly connected to the attack.”
“The injured officer was also rescued and rushed to hospital. However, despite efforts, the inspector sadly passed away while receiving care.”
The Ondo State Police Command warned that it would not tolerate assaults on police personnel, saying perpetrators would face the full weight of the law.
The command also assured that officers must uphold citizens’ rights, stressing that the Nigeria Police Force will remain firm in addressing criminal elements while maintaining professionalism.
