The Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, in Kano State, Hashimu Dungurawa, has insisted that he remains the legitimate leader of the party in the state, dismissing moves by some ward executives to remove him.
Dungurawa spoke about 24 hours after executives of Gargari Ward in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area announced a resolution purportedly expelling him from the party.

Reacting to the development, the NNPP chieftain said the ward executives lack the constitutional authority to expel him, noting that he is also a member of the party’s National Executive Committee.
“This is not their right to expel me. I am also a member of the National Executive Committee of the party, and they cannot override that authority,” he said.
Dungurawa expressed surprise over the action, adding that he was yet to be informed of the specific allegations or reasons behind the purported expulsion.
He warned that the party would take legal steps against individuals he accused of impersonating NNPP leaders in the state.
“We will arrest them for impersonation for parading themselves as leaders of the NNPP,” he added.
