A Kano State High Court has affirmed the appointment of Hon. Abdullahi Zubairu Abiya as the Acting State Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State.
The court also upheld the suspension of the former State Chairman, Alhaji Hashimu Dungurawa, and restrained him from interfering in the affairs of the party pending the determination of the substantive suit.

The presiding judge fixed January 19 for the hearing of the suit filed by the NNPP Dawakin Tofa Local Government Executive Committee against Dungurawa.
The legal action followed a challenge to Dungurawa’s continued claim to the state chairmanship after the NNPP state executive suspended him from office.
In the meantime, the Kano State Executive Committee of the NNPP, at an emergency meeting held at the party’s secretariat in Kano, ratified the appointment of Abiya as Acting State Chairman.
The committee said the decision was taken following the removal of Dungurawa as chairman.
Dungurawa is known to be aligned with the national leader of the NNPP, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The court further ordered all parties to maintain the status quo and specifically directed Dungurawa to stop parading himself as the state chairman or taking any action capable of disrupting the party’s activities in Kano State until the matter is heard and finally resolved.
