A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has warned that a split between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi would give President Bola Ahmed Tinubu a clear advantage in the 2027 presidential election.
Momodu recalled that Atiku and Obi finished second and third respectively in the 2023 presidential election, cautioning against a repeat of such division among opposition forces.
He made the remarks in a post on his verified X handle, noting that Atiku has remained consistent and persistent in his presidential ambition over the years.

According to him, with political history, party structures and voter enthusiasm all in play, unity within the opposition could prove decisive, while fragmentation could once again shape the outcome of the election in favour of the ruling party.
“Buhari lost multiple times and even gave up at a point. But Atiku was always closer to the destination and has never given up. That’s admirable,” Momodu wrote.
“He and Obi came after the other as 2nd and 3rd in 2023. Dividing them again will instantly give Tinubu an advantage. See the energy Obi has generated from his base to ADC,” he added.
Momodu further noted that Atiku would also re-energise his support base and bring to bear the political structures he has built over the years.
“Atiku will re-energize his own base too and offer the formidable structures he’s been building steadily, meticulously and intentionally since about 1993 when he stepped down for Chief Moshood Abiola at the SDP presidential primary in Jos,” he said.
