The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has declared his readiness to contest the 2027 general election, assuring supporters that he will be on the ballot despite alleged resistance from the Federal Government.
Obi made the declaration on Saturday in Uyo at the OBIDIENT Conference and Official Declaration for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), themed “Activating the PO Effect in ADC.”

He claimed to have it on good authority that the Federal Government does not want him to contest in 2027 but insisted that he would participate in the election regardless of the circumstances.
“I left Labour Party when I got informed that as long as I remain in the party, INEC will not recognize its leadership, that the federal government don’t want me on the ballot paper. But I want to assure you that I will contest the coming election even if it holds in their bedroom,” Obi said.
He also stressed the need for electoral transparency, stating that election results must be transmitted electronically in real time in 2027.
“Nigeria must get it right in 2027. Election results must be transmitted online in real time, and whoever fails to transmit results will be transmitted,” he added.
The former Anambra State governor accused the current administration of accumulating more loans than previous governments, noting that many of the debts would be repaid between 2045 and 2050.
Obi urged Nigerians to join him in what he described as a mission to rescue the country for future generations, warning that decades of poor governance would have lasting consequences.
He pledged that if elected, his administration would prioritise investment in education and healthcare, arguing that developed nations achieved progress through deliberate investment in human capital. He also promised to work toward reducing poverty and tackling corruption.
“When I became governor of Anambra State, I advised my wife to forget about the office of First Lady because we were not elected together. I approved over 100 Certificates of Occupancy of government lands but have none for myself or my family. If you find any, petition me to the appropriate authority,” he said.
Obi further stated that he would tour the country and visit higher institutions to assess challenges firsthand, adding that those supporting his ambition must prioritise the future and wellbeing of Nigerians.
Also speaking at the event, the National Coordinator of the OBIDIENT Movement, Dr Tanko Yunusa, called on Nigerians to mobilise across the country ahead of the 2027 general election.
He urged supporters to channel their efforts into the ADC as a platform for transformation and electoral victory.
Similarly, the Akwa Ibom State Coordinator of the OBIDIENT Movement, Dr Ben Smith, called for unity among members, warning that internal divisions could undermine the vision of building a new Nigeria.
