Activist politician Omoyele Sowore has supported the claim by Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi that the Nigerian government is aware of the identities and locations of terrorists operating in the country.
Sowore also alleged that authorities could eliminate the terrorists and other criminal elements within a short period if they were willing to do so.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja, the activist said the cleric’s statement should not be dismissed, insisting that it reflects a widely known reality.
“Sheikh Gumi is not a foolish man as people think; he is actually very smart. He might be smart for different reasons and be religious in his ways, and he’s not telling you anything new,” Sowore said.
According to him, there are links between some terrorists and individuals within the government, which he claimed makes it easier for authorities to establish communication with kidnappers during negotiations.
“All these terrorists are in bed with people in government. Whenever there is mass kidnapping, why do you think the government is able to reach out to the kidnappers? It’s because they have their phone numbers,” he said.
Sowore further alleged that many terrorists and criminal groups are already known to security agencies in the country.
“No major terrorist or criminal is unknown to Nigerian security agencies. If they want to wipe out all the terrorists today, they know where to get them,” he added.
