Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has confirmed that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) will not field a presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections.
Soludo made this known during a media chat shortly after his inauguration for a second term in office, expressing support for President Bola Tinubu.
“President Tinubu is my friend, and I believe he has done well and deserves a second term. I have no apologies about that; this is my position,” he said.

“Anybody can differ, but beyond personal preferences, the fundamental issue is the interest of my people.”
The governor explained that APGA’s decision is consistent with its past political strategy, recalling that the party adopted a presidential candidate in previous elections instead of fielding one.
“We are not going to field a candidate in our party. In 2011, APGA did not field a presidential candidate. APGA adopted then-President Jonathan as its candidate,” he stated.
Soludo added that the party would work to communicate its position effectively to the South-East, noting that the region would align with what serves its best interests.
“Our people are smart. Once they understand that it is in their own enlightened self-interest, they will see the reasoning,” he said.
He further emphasised the need to return to alliance-based politics, drawing inspiration from the approach of Nnamdi Azikiwe.
“We need to get back to the politics of Azikiwe, who taught us to build alliances. It’s not politics of protest; it’s politics that builds bridges,” Soludo said.
He added that while President Tinubu could win the election regardless, aligning with broader political interests would ensure that the South-East secures a stake in national governance.
