Plateau State Polytechnic Students yesterday staged a peaceful protest to demand what they termed failure of the school authority to provide students with their Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) pin number.
An eye witness account who spoke on condition of anonymity said the students had to stage the peaceful demonstration in order to register their displeasure over what the students said was the inability of students to generate Retrieval Remittance Reference (RRR) even after the payment of the sum of N1,500 per student at the point of registration.
Some of the students who spoke to our correspondents lamented that the students were compelled by the school authority to pay N5, 500 each for the JAMB pin numbers and N1,500 for ICT in order to generate RRR but that; that the students were yet to be issued any of the two items and instead made to pay additional N100 before generating the RRR.
Leader of the protesters who wants to remain anonymous said the students came out in their numbers to protect what he claimed was the interest of the students.
While frowning at the development he described it as unfair to the students, called on the school authority to do something urgent to forestall further breakdown of law and order.
Addressing the protesting students at the Main Campus of the Polytechnic in Barkin Ladi, Rector of the institution, Dauda Gyemang told them that the school authority would look into their demands as according to him; the institution was not unmindful of their plight.
Gyemang then commended the students for the way and manner they conducted themselves during the demonstration even as he urged them to remain calm as the issues would be addressed accordingly.
