Media mogul, Dele Momodu, has alleged that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is positioning himself to emerge as the sole candidate in the 2027 general elections.
Momodu made the claim while reacting to the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to de-recognise the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by David Mark.

INEC’s action followed its interpretation of a recent Court of Appeal ruling.
In a post on his X handle, Momodu criticised the electoral body, describing it as “a debilitating albatross” on Nigeria’s democratic process.
“Our country has waltzed from bad to worse since the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, which was apparently won by Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola,” he said.
He also accused INEC of selective actions, alleging that while it swiftly recognised a faction within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), it has failed to address internal disputes within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Momodu further claimed that recent political developments suggest a broader attempt to weaken opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections.
“The ultimate aim of Tinubu and his acolytes is to produce a sole candidate in the 2027 presidential election,” he stated.
He likened the situation to the era of Sani Abacha, noting that the last time such a move was attempted was during the late military ruler’s regime between 1993 and 1998.
Momodu, however, expressed hope that judicial intervention and other factors could still shape the outcome of the unfolding political developments.
