Delta State Deputy Governor, Prof. Amos Utuama, SAN, has ordered Sierra Construction Nigeria Limited, the contractor handling the Otu-Jeremi and Okwagbe Modern Market to increase the pace of work at the site and ensure that the project is completed according to design by October this year.
Prof. Utuama gave the order during an inspection tour to the Otu-Jeremi and Okwagbe Modern market project under construction respectively, at Ughelli South Local Government Area, Delta State and expressed displeasure over the slow pace of work been done by the contractor.
The State Deputy Governor noted that government is anxious and determined in ensuring that the construction of the markets is completed by October, advising the contractor not to allow challenges deter him from moving fast with the project, adding that he will re-visit the site in the next three weeks to ascertain the level of work done.
Prof. Utuama observed that the Okwagbe market project is almost been abandoned and urged the contractor to concentrate on the two projects simultaneously without delay, adding that government will always ensure that certificates are paid as at when due if government is impressed with the level of work done.
He noted that life is about challenges as there is no smooth sailing through life, asserting that those who have succeeded has had different challenges to overcome.
Prof. Utuama used the occasion to commend youths and elders in Okwabe community for their understanding and urged them to cooperate with the contractor handling the project in order to ensure that the construction of the market is completed in due time.
He noted that the markets is been put in place by the Delta State Government to enhance the commercial standard of the people and the community, adding that Government is determined in ensuring that all ongoing projects are completed within the State by the end of this administration.
The site Engineer, Sierra Construction Nigeria Limited, Engr. Charles Ohwona who assured the State Deputy Governor that the projects will be completed as at when due, explained that the slow pace of work was due to some logistic reasons ranging from land disputes between two families, lack of fund, the nature of the land and to the road terrain, he however assured the Deputy Governor that these challenges are been addressed and that work will continue without delay.
Prof. Utuama, also stopped to inspect the level of damage on a church building at Okwagbe, where he was told by those around that the damage was caused by an MTN mast that fell and destroyed the building killing one person while about 32 other worshippers sustained various injuries during a Sabbath day service.
