A member of the Gombe State House of Assembly representing Billiri East Constituency, Yakubu Daniel, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defection further consolidates the dominance of the APC in the state legislature, as Daniel was the last remaining PDP lawmaker in the assembly.
Daniel announced his defection on Saturday at the Government House in Gombe State, where he was received by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.

He was accompanied by the Speaker of the State Assembly and other lawmakers during the visit.
Explaining his decision, Daniel said the move followed earlier defections by opposition lawmakers, including members of the minority leadership who had previously joined the APC.
He also cited the leadership style of Governor Yahaya, describing it as people-centred and capable of attracting support across political divides.
Welcoming the development, Governor Yahaya described the defection as a strong endorsement of his administration.
“This is a strong vote of confidence in our leadership, our policies and our inclusive style of governance. For the last remaining opposition member in the Assembly to take this step speaks volumes about the direction we are taking in Gombe State,” he said.
The governor added that the growing support for the APC reflects public confidence in the party’s policies and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Daniel pledged loyalty to the APC and promised to contribute to the party’s growth and consolidation across the state.
