The Kano State Police Command has foiled an attempted attack on shops in the Gyadi-Gyadi area, arresting six suspected thugs following a violent clash between rival ‘Yan Daba groups.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
According to the statement, the Command responded to a distress call received at about 1:20 p.m. indicating that suspected thugs had mobilised for a confrontation.

“Upon receipt of the report, patrol teams were immediately deployed to the scene. On arrival, officers observed a violent clash between suspected ‘Yan Daba groups,” he said.
During the clash, the suspects reportedly vandalised an ambulance and attempted to spread the violence to nearby areas. The situation escalated when the hoodlums allegedly attacked police officers with weapons and stones.
“They later regrouped and attacked police officers with dangerous weapons and stones. The attack was professionally repelled by the operatives,” the statement added.
The suspects subsequently fled towards Farm Centre Market, where they attempted to break into shops and loot goods, but were prevented by reinforcement teams deployed to the scene.
“The thugs were further dispersed and six suspects were arrested,” Kiyawa stated, adding that normalcy has been restored in the affected areas.
Reacting, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended officers for their swift response, professionalism, and restraint, noting that their actions prevented further breakdown of law and order.
He warned against thuggery and other criminal activities in the state, urging parents and guardians to caution their wards.
“The Command will not tolerate any form of thuggery or disturbance of public peace in Kano State. Anyone found fomenting trouble will be arrested and prosecuted,” he said.
The Command added that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects and identify those responsible for the clash.
