Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will produce Nigeria’s next president in 2027.
Makinde made the assertion amid ongoing leadership disputes within the party, which have resulted in internal divisions.
The PDP has recently been polarised between camps aligned with Makinde and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Despite the crisis and conflicting court rulings, Wike had maintained that there is no faction within the party.
However, Makinde insisted that the PDP, under the leadership of his faction, is repositioning itself to reclaim power at the federal level.
He spoke on Monday while addressing members and stakeholders at the 103rd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the faction loyal to him, held in Abuja.
“We should write it down. This gathering will produce House of Assembly members, will produce House of Representatives members, will produce Senators, will produce Governors, and will produce the next President,” Makinde said.
The governor expressed confidence in the party’s structure and readiness, despite the internal challenges, as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
