The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has declared that it has no option other than to adopt direct primaries ahead of the forthcoming general elections in the state.
The APC Chairman in the state, Chief Moses Adeyemo, made the declaration on Monday while receiving members of the screening and appeal committees deployed to the state by the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.

The screening committee comprises former Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon. Taofiq AbdusSalam, Kamal Sanusi, Smart Oluwole, Tunde Kolade and Olabamiji Agunloye.
Members of the screening appeal committee include Jibola Oduwole as chairman, alongside Abimbola Jack and Jelil Jimoh.
Addressing the gathering in Ibadan, Adeyemo said the party had initially put mechanisms in place to achieve consensus among aspirants across the board.
He, however, noted that available reports indicated that the party would likely adopt the direct primary option in some cases, including the governorship election.
“We set machineries in motion for us to achieve the aim of consensus across the board, but reports available to me indicate that we would have to go by the second option, which is direct primary, in certain cases, including the governorship ticket,” he said.
Adeyemo maintained that nothing would hinder the party from conducting free, fair and credible direct primaries for its candidates.
“To this end, we shall work towards organising a free, fair and credible exercise in all the affected areas, even as we cannot rule out the possibility of some aspirants having a rethink and supporting the consensus arrangement as necessary,” he added.
