The Imo State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the alleged murder of 21-year-old Christogonus Chinedu Chibuzo, a 100-level student of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), who died under suspicious circumstances on May 30.
In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, it was disclosed that preliminary investigations indicated the deceased, a Cyber Security student and member of the Man O’ War organisation on campus, was allegedly assaulted following accusations of theft involving ₦13,500.

The suspects identified as Benedict Chukwuemeka (21), Gospel Kelechi Ikenna (24), and Anastasia Obioma (21), all students of the institution, are currently in police custody.
According to the statement, the victim was allegedly restrained and subjected to severe assault, resulting in critical injuries. He was later rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel.
The Command noted that the Commissioner of Police, Audu Garba Bosso, immediately ordered swift action upon receiving the report, leading to the arrest of the suspects. Relevant evidence has also been recovered, while the deceased’s body has been deposited in the morgue for preservation and autopsy.
The police spokesperson further stated that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Owerri, for discreet and comprehensive investigation.
The Command assured the public, as well as the family of the deceased and the university community, that it is committed to uncovering the full circumstances surrounding the incident and ensuring that justice is served.
