Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has dismissed speculations of a rift between him and his predecessor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, declaring that he would never speak ill of the former governor who facilitated his emergence as governor in 2023.
Speaking during his third-year anniversary media briefing held on Saturday at the Government House banquet hall in Uyo, Governor Eno said his political journey was made possible through Emmanuel’s support and goodwill.
“Politics was not my career path, but God put me in the heart of Udom Emmanuel. He did all for me,” the governor said.

He added that he would not join what he described as attempts to discredit past leaders of the state, stressing that gratitude and respect must guide his public conduct.
“Therefore, I will not join you people to say anything about past leaders in the State. Maybe I’m not a good politician, but there are certain things I can’t do,” he stated.
Governor Eno also expressed frustration with political dishonesty, adding humorously that in another life he would prefer to be a politician “so that I will be able to be telling you lies,” while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to delivering democratic dividends.
On infrastructure development, the governor disclosed that the state government is currently executing several road projects, including the dualisation of Ring Road III and the reconstruction of the Ikot Akpaden–Iko Road with bridges. He warned that contracts not meeting performance expectations could be terminated to prevent wastage of public funds.
Addressing concerns over potholes in Uyo metropolis, Eno announced plans to establish a monitoring committee comprising journalists and civil society organisations to track and report affected areas.
On the issue of poor power supply in the state, the governor appealed for patience from residents, explaining that structured frameworks were being developed to ensure a stable electricity supply.
