The 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has insisted that he won the 2023 presidential election despite not being declared the winner by the electoral authorities.
Obi made the assertion during an interview with broadcaster Rufai Oseni, where he maintained that history would eventually vindicate his claim.
The former Anambra State governor urged Nigerians to look beyond the officially declared results, insisting that the truth about the election would emerge in the future.

“Do you know that in the last election I won? Forget about the proof, they didn’t declare me,” Obi said.
“I have contested elections in Nigeria as a presidential candidate and won, leave what’s declared because one day the story will be told.
“For now, I can tell you that I’m offering myself for the general election in Nigeria. One day, the process will recognise it.”
Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the platform of the Labour Party (LP), finished third in the official results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The election was won by President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came second.
Following the election, Obi challenged the outcome in court, alleging irregularities in the conduct of the poll.
However, the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal and the Supreme Court upheld Tinubu’s victory.
Obi has remained a prominent opposition figure and is seeking to contest the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the NDC.
