Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has attributed the rising spate of insecurity in the state to the inadequate arming of the state’s security outfit, Amotekun.
Makinde made the assertion while addressing protesters who took to the streets of Ibadan to demand improved security and the rescue of abducted schoolchildren and teachers.
InfoStride News reports that social media activist, VeryDarkMan, on Tuesday led a protest in Ibadan, calling for the release of kidnapped pupils and teachers.

The protest followed heightened concerns over insecurity in the state after the abduction of more than 40 students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.
Addressing the protesters, the governor acknowledged the security challenges confronting the state but assured residents that his administration remained committed to tackling criminal activities.
According to him, security has remained one of the cardinal objectives of his administration, which informed the establishment of the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun.
“Security was one of the cardinal principles of this administration. That’s why we set up Amotekun. It has not been adequately armed. That is our reality now,” Makinde said.
“But let me give you the assurance that we are going to win the war against insecurity in Oyo State and bring the abducted victims home.”
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening security architecture in the state and ensuring the safety of lives and property.
He also assured residents that efforts were ongoing in collaboration with security agencies to secure the release of the abducted victims and restore peace to affected communities.
The recent wave of insecurity has sparked growing concerns among residents, with stakeholders calling for enhanced security measures across the state.
