Police Arrest 40-Year-Old Man Over Alleged Murder, Illegal Firearm Possession in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Clement Anthony, for allegedly murdering a 55-year-old man and unlawfully possessing a locally made firearm in Bauchi metropolis.

The command’s spokesman, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.

According to him, the incident was reported to the ‘A’ Division Police Station on July 19, 2026, by a 47-year-old resident of Unguwar Ngas in Bauchi Local Government Area.

“The complainant alleged that one Clement Anthony, a 40-year-old of Unguwar Ngas, Inkil, Bauchi, armed himself with a locally made single-barrel gun and intentionally shot Mr. Jacob Bature, a 55-year-old and the Mai Anguwan Ngas, during an altercation,” Habib stated.

The police spokesman said the victim was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, where doctors confirmed him dead after he sustained gunshot injuries to the right side of his chest.

Habib added that the remains of the deceased had been deposited in the hospital mortuary pending further investigation.

He said police operatives arrested the suspect and recovered the locally made single-barrel firearm allegedly used in the attack, as well as one expended cartridge.

According to the command, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a comprehensive investigation, while the suspect will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the killing and assured residents of the command’s determination to ensure that perpetrators of violent crimes are brought to justice.

He also urged members of the public to refrain from the unlawful possession of firearms and to report suspicious persons or activities promptly to the nearest police station.
