The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in Osun State to Friday, July 31, ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The electoral body announced the extension on Tuesday, saying the decision was taken to enable more eligible voters to collect their PVCs and participate in the election.
INEC said the extension followed complaints from members of the public over large crowds at collection centres and other challenges encountered during the exercise.
According to the commission, 322,822 PVCs, representing 62 per cent of the available cards for newly registered voters, had been collected as of the close of the initial exercise.
The commission explained that PVC collection at the Registration Area (ward) centres will now continue until Friday, July 31, after which the exercise will move to all INEC Local Government offices across the state from August 1 to August 7.
INEC urged all eligible voters who are yet to collect their PVCs to take advantage of the extension, stressing that possession of a PVC remains a prerequisite for voting in the August 15 governorship election.
