Ogun Police arrest suspected rapist, recover stolen vehicle in separate operations

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man over the alleged rape and robbery of a woman, while operatives also recovered a stolen vehicle in separate operations across the state.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the suspect, identified as Zacheus Joseph, was arrested following a complaint that he allegedly attacked a woman who had visited an acquaintance in Abaren Village, via Ofada.

According to the police, the suspect allegedly threatened the victim with a knife before dragging her into a nearby bush, where he sexually assaulted her and fled with her mobile phones and laptop.

Babaseyi said detectives immediately launched an investigation, leading to the suspect’s arrest while he was allegedly trying to dispose of one of the stolen phones.

He added that the victim was taken to a medical facility for examination and treatment, while efforts are ongoing to recover the remaining stolen items and conclude investigations.

In another operation, detectives attached to the Ibara Division recovered a Toyota Camry that had earlier been reported stolen within the state.

The police said the vehicle was recovered through intelligence-driven investigation and would be released to its rightful owner after the completion of necessary documentation.
