2027: I contested against INEC, not fellow candidates in 2023 – SDP Adebayo

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate, Adewole Adebayo, has alleged that he contested more against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) than his fellow presidential candidates during the 2023 general election.

Adebayo stated this while speaking during a television interview, where he reflected on the conduct of the last presidential election and the need for electoral reforms ahead of the 2027 polls.

According to him, the credibility of any election depends on the impartiality of the electoral umpire, stressing that political parties and candidates should compete on the basis of their programmes and popularity rather than contend with shortcomings in the electoral process.

He maintained that his experience in the 2023 election reinforced the need for INEC to improve transparency and strictly comply with the Electoral Act in future elections.

Adebayo said restoring public confidence in the electoral system is essential to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy and encouraging greater participation in the political process.

The SDP presidential candidate also urged the electoral commission to ensure that the 2027 general elections are conducted in a free, fair and credible manner, insisting that every vote must count.

He expressed optimism that with the necessary reforms and commitment by all stakeholders, future elections would better reflect the will of the Nigerian electorate.
