The Osun State Police Command has dismissed allegations that it compiled a list of politicians and supporters for arrest ahead of the August 15 governorship election, describing the claim as false and misleading.
The command was reacting to allegations by the Imole Campaign Council, which claimed that some members of the ruling party in the state had been marked for arrest as part of a plot to intimidate the opposition before the poll.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, the command denied the allegation, insisting that it had no list of political figures targeted for arrest.
The police maintained that their operations in the state are guided by the law and are not influenced by political considerations, stressing that officers would remain neutral throughout the election period.
According to the command, any individual found to have violated the law, regardless of political affiliation, would be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with due process.
The police also urged political parties and their supporters to refrain from spreading unverified claims capable of creating unnecessary tension or undermining public confidence in the electoral process.
The command reassured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property before, during and after the governorship election, while calling on all stakeholders to support efforts aimed at ensuring a peaceful, free and credible poll.
