The Taraba State Government has rejected claims that the state is currently indebted to the tune of N1.2 trillion, describing the figure as inaccurate and misleading.
The government said the reported debt figure did not accurately reflect the state’s actual financial obligations and could create unnecessary concern among residents and investors.
It explained that the figure being circulated may have resulted from the combination of different financial commitments and liabilities without proper clarification of their status.
The state government urged the public to rely on verified information when assessing Taraba’s financial position rather than figures presented without adequate context.
It maintained that its financial dealings were subject to established procedures and oversight mechanisms, stressing that the administration remained committed to transparency and accountability in the management of public funds.
The government also called on individuals and organisations with concerns about the state’s finances to seek clarification from the appropriate authorities instead of relying on unverified claims.
It assured residents that the administration would continue to prioritise responsible financial management while implementing programmes aimed at improving infrastructure and the welfare of citizens.
The government further urged the public to disregard the N1.2 trillion debt figure, describing it as a misrepresentation of the state’s actual debt position.
