IGP urged to arrest APC senator over controversial remark

A call has been made for the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to immediately arrest an All Progressives Congress (APC) senator over a controversial remark allegedly made ahead of the Osun State governorship election.

The demand was made by a political group, which accused the lawmaker of making comments capable of heightening tension and threatening the peaceful conduct of the August 15 election.

The group urged the police authorities to investigate the senator’s statement and determine whether it violated any provision of the law.

It argued that political actors should be held accountable for statements that could incite violence or intimidate voters, particularly in the tense period leading to an election.

The group also called on security agencies to ensure that all political parties and candidates operate within the law, regardless of their political affiliation.

It stressed that the police have a responsibility to prevent activities capable of undermining public order and the credibility of the electoral process.

The appeal comes amid heightened political activities in Osun, where candidates and their supporters have intensified campaigns ahead of the governorship poll.

The group urged the police to act promptly and impartially, insisting that no politician should be above the law.

It further called on political parties and their supporters to avoid inflammatory statements and allow voters to exercise their rights without fear or intimidation.
