Political economist and professor, Pat Utomi, has described the outcome of the Osun State governorship election as evidence that voters can overcome attempts to manipulate electoral processes.
Utomi said the election demonstrated the power of citizens when they collectively exercise their democratic rights and remain determined to protect their votes.

He commended Osun voters for participating in the election and urged Nigerians to draw lessons from the exercise ahead of future elections.
According to him, the outcome showed that electoral manipulation could be challenged when citizens remain vigilant and actively participate in the democratic process.
Utomi stressed the importance of strengthening institutions responsible for conducting and protecting elections, saying credible polls are essential to the survival of democracy.
He also called on political parties, candidates and their supporters to respect the wishes of voters and pursue any grievances through lawful channels.
The professor urged Nigerians not to become discouraged by challenges associated with the country’s electoral system, maintaining that sustained civic participation could help improve the quality of elections.
He said the experience in Osun should encourage citizens in other parts of the country to take greater interest in elections and hold political leaders accountable.
Utomi further called for continued reforms aimed at improving electoral transparency, strengthening institutions and ensuring that every legitimate vote counts.
