A former National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Lukman, has said the outcome of the Osun State governorship election provides useful lessons for opposition parties seeking to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Lukman argued that the opposition could challenge the ruling APC if its various political parties and leaders were able to work together and build a strong coalition.

He said the Osun election demonstrated the importance of unity, effective mobilisation and strategic cooperation among opposition parties.
According to him, political differences among opposition leaders must be set aside if they are serious about defeating the ruling party in 2027.
Lukman urged opposition politicians to study the factors that influenced the Osun election and apply the lessons to the national political landscape.
He maintained that opposition parties should develop a coordinated strategy rather than contesting elections separately and weakening their collective strength.
The former APC chieftain also called for greater attention to grassroots mobilisation and the concerns of voters, stressing that political parties must offer Nigerians credible alternatives.
He said the 2027 election would provide an opportunity for Nigerians to decide whether to retain the present administration or support an alternative political platform.
Lukman urged opposition leaders to begin preparations early and focus on building a broad alliance capable of challenging the APC across the country.
He maintained that the Osun experience showed that incumbency alone could not guarantee electoral victory when opposition forces were sufficiently organised and united.
