Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has recalled how his administration provided financial support to pregnant women attending antenatal care in the state.
Amaechi said his government paid N10,000 to pregnant women to encourage them to attend antenatal clinics and improve maternal healthcare.
The former governor disclosed this while highlighting some of the initiatives introduced during his administration to improve healthcare delivery in Rivers State.
According to him, the financial support was designed to encourage expectant mothers to register for antenatal care and ensure they received proper medical attention during pregnancy.
Amaechi said the initiative was part of his administration’s efforts to reduce maternal and infant mortality and improve access to healthcare services.
He maintained that government programmes should be targeted at directly improving the welfare of citizens, particularly vulnerable groups.
The former governor’s remarks come amid renewed political activities in Rivers State and across the country ahead of the 2027 general elections.
