The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate for Sokoto North Senatorial District, Ahmed Maccido, has joined the African Democratic Congress, ADC, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Maccido was formally presented to the ADC presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, by former Sokoto State governor and ADC leader in the state, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, during a meeting in Abuja.

The development followed Maccido’s withdrawal from the PDP senatorial race.
The former senator had informed the PDP of his decision in a letter dated September 30, 2026, addressed to the party’s Sokoto State chairman, Hayattu Tafida.
In the letter, Maccido described his withdrawal as voluntary and said the decision was taken without external pressure. He did not initially disclose his reason for leaving the contest or indicate his next political destination.
His subsequent move to the ADC has now clarified his political direction ahead of the 2027 elections.
Tambuwal was accompanied at the Abuja meeting by the ADC Deputy Director-General, Administration, Yusuf Suleiman, as well as other party leaders and stakeholders from Sokoto State.
The development comes amid ongoing political realignments in Sokoto State as political parties and aspirants intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Meanwhile, the Sokoto State PDP had questioned the timing of Maccido’s withdrawal and alleged that external political influence could have played a role. Maccido, however, had stated in his withdrawal letter that his decision was voluntary.
