Nollywood actress Uche Ogbodo has reflected on her journey in the film industry. She recently described her experience as a mix of highs, lows, lessons and resilience.
Speaking during an interview with VanguardNG, the mother of three opened up about how she stopped trying to fit into people’s expectations of her and started building her own identity in Nollywood.

On balancing acting, business and motherhood, Ogbodo admitted that while she doesn’t always have it together, she has learned to prioritize, delegate and protect her energy.
Her words, “My journey has been a beautiful mix of highs, lows, lessons, reinvention and resilience.
I started as a young girl with a dream, and today I’m a woman who has lived through so many different chapters.
My biggest turning point was learning to understand who I am outside of what people expect me to be.
I stopped trying to fit into people’s idea of Uche Ogbodo and started building my own identity.
My lowest moments taught me the most. There were periods when I felt broken, disappointed and completely exhausted, but somehow I always found a reason to get back up. I think that’s one thing about me, I may bend, but I don’t stay down.
I’ve learned that talent alone isn’t enough anymore. You have to evolve.
The industry has become more competitive, audiences are more sophisticated, and social media has completely changed how actors connect with people.
I’ve had to reinvent myself, understand my audience and remain open to new ways of telling stories. But I’ve also learned not to chase every trend. Relevance is knowing how to evolve without losing yourself.
Motherhood has made me much more intentional. Before, I could make decisions purely based on ambition.
Now, I have people whose lives are connected to mine, so I think about my time, my values and the kind of example I’m setting. But being a mother hasn’t made me stop being a woman with dreams.
If anything, it has made me more ambitious because I want my children to see a woman who didn’t abandon herself while raising them.”
