Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has declared that the era of politicians giving Nigerians N1,000 or N2,000 to attend political rallies is over, insisting that the country needs a new approach to political mobilisation.
Uzodimma made the statement during the General Assembly of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, held in Imo State.

The governor said the political practice of gathering people at rallies for hours and offering them small amounts of money was outdated, adding that Nigerians should embrace a new order that promotes self-reliance and economic prosperity.
“You have seen that the days are gone when you call people to talk about politics, you summon big rallies where people go from morning till night and you give them N1,000 or N2,000. That is an old order; it’s gone and we want the new order,” he said.
Uzodimma also praised President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, saying the Federal Government’s vision was aimed at encouraging Nigerians to take ownership of their country and future.
He expressed confidence in Tinubu’s leadership and assured the President of Imo State’s support, adding that his administration wanted Nigeria’s prosperity to begin in the state.
The governor spoke while addressing beneficiaries of a programme involving 1,000 households, whom he encouraged to cultivate gardens around their homes to grow food and improve their livelihoods.
He urged the beneficiaries to begin planting immediately, noting that they could start harvesting within a few months.
Uzodimma congratulated Tinubu on what he described as a new vision for the country, urging the beneficiaries to remember the President’s efforts as they returned to their communities.
The governor’s remarks come amid growing political activities ahead of the 2027 general election, as parties and their leaders intensify efforts to mobilise support for their candidates.
