RALEIGH, NC–(Marketwired – July 15, 2014) – The Metro Raleigh Business RadioX studio in Wake Forest, NC launched NC Tech Talk with North Carolina Technology Association (NCTA) on June 30, 2014. Studio co-owner Ann Revell-Pechar was joined by NCTA co-hosts Brooks Raiford, Michelle Calton and Marc Montoro, as they interviewed NCTA members Craig Scates of Resolvit and Steve Chase of Alphanumeric Systems.
Revell-Pechar interviewed NCTA president and CEO Brooks Raiford about the organization’s role in policy, and how they represent their state-wide members to the legislature in Raleigh. “The profile of NCTA’s membership explains why we do public affairs work,” said Raiford. “We have a lot of large name brand companies, but predominantly our members are small and mid-sized. In fact, 75% of our member companies have fewer than 50 employees in the state. Very few of them have even one lobbyist on staff. One role that a state-wide association can play is to pay attention to the issues, to be the eyes and ears and collective voice of our members. We also join forces with other technology associations to have a greater voice on the federal level on issues like immigration reform, visas, and other talent-related legislation.”
Raiford was joined by Vice President Michelle Calton to interview Craig Scates, Partner at Resolvit, who talked about his company’s global growth, and about the shortage of tech talent. “We’re enjoying a recent high in employment opportunities, which is great news, but each incremental hire is a struggle. In the key areas where we work, we see a definite shortage of available talent. There’s lots of great talent here, but they’re all working, so we often have to bring them in from outside the market.” Calton mentioned that Scates is on the steering committee for an NCTA Knowledge Workforce Interest Network, where they gather to talk about workforce development and education.
Steve Chase, VP of Global Sales at Alphanumeric Systems, talked about their recently celebration of 35 years as a company and the changes they’ve experienced with new technologies driving the market and the company’s global growth. Chase spoke with Raiford and the NCTA’s Sr. Director of Programs & Communications, about innovation inside the business, and the upcoming NCTA Golf Tournament and Leadership retreat on July 31 – August 1st, 2014.
According to Chase, “Innovation has required a shift in the type of people we have at Alphanumeric because of the way our clients are consuming IT. We moved away from an 80% product, 20% services environment where today we offer 80% services and 20% product. That means more soft skills, and incorporating learning in how we provide delivery, which adds values to our customers.”
Tech Talk with NCTA airs the last Monday of every month. Listen to the entire interview of the June episode on Metro Raleigh Business RadioX.
