Nigeria’s Vice President, Mohammed Namadi Sambo has lauded the continuous support offered to the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan by the people of Delta State, while thanking God for the life of the PDP Vice National Chairman in the South-South, Stephen Oru.
Vice President Namadi Sambo who was speaking at the Ugheli Township Stadium in Delta State averred that as believers in the will of God, Nigerians should always give thanks to the Almighty for what he is doing in their lives as well as for good health and prosperity. He further indicated that the gathering of friends, colleagues and well-wishers at the occasion testified to the acceptability and enviable position which the PDP Vice National Chairman wields in the Nigerian society.
“Stephen Oru is a great leader who every community and individual is proud and happy to identify with. His enviable testimonials speak volumes on his achievements and commitment to the upliftment of mankind. He is an embodiment of selfless service to humanity. No encomiums will be too much to describe the fine gentleman of impeccable character,” Sambo indicated.
While thanking the Oru family of Ugheli Kingdom for the wonderful organization of the thanksgiving service in appreciation to God for his continued grace and generosity to Stephen Oru, the Vice President commended his wife as well as the Ugheli community for their love, solidarity with PDP and the Stephen Oru family. He assured Nigerians of continuous loyalty and commitment to the transformation of the country through the provision of democratic dividends to the people.
Earlier in his address, the Delta State Governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan thanked the Vice President and the people of Delta State for being present at the occasion. He noted that the people of the State and the entire South-South are in support of President Goodluck Jonathan and commended Vice President Sambo for his good advice and loyalty to the President.
He praised the Almighty God, saying the gathering would have been for the burial of Stephen Oru but God did turned it to a celebration of life. He commended his wife as well as other family members for supporting him.
The Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Tony Anenih, who was represented by the Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen expressed fulfillment over the Vice President’s honour for the invitation.
In his remarks at the occasion, Stephen Oru recalled his ordeal with some gunmen who shot at him severally and thanked God for sparing is life. He also expressed appreciation for the support from President Jonathan, Vice President Sambo, the Delta State Governor – Emmanuel Uduaghan and others during his difficult moments.
“The aggression of other political parties against our great party is at best to spur our party to greater heights as constructive opposition will always bring about progress and development,” he explained.
He further indicated that those who are hungry for power for the sake of it, not because they want to serve Nigerians are people without political ideology. He said that those kind of people who were formerly in AD, later in AC and CAN and are now in APC would sooner beg to come back to PDP.
