The African Action Congress, AAC, has criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu over its decision to launch a military operation targeting fleeing coup plotters in the Republic of Benin.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Rex I. Elanu, the party described the action as evidence of what it called the selective application of state power by the federal government.
According to the AAC, while Nigerians continue to face widespread insecurity, including kidnappings and killings, the government appears capable of swift and decisive action only when elite or foreign interests are involved.

“Nigerians are being kidnapped, killed, and terrorised with near-total impunity, yet the same state demonstrates flawless coordination and lethal efficiency when it serves regime or foreign interests,” the statement said.
The party argued that the development exposes a government it accused of prioritising the protection of elite interests over the safety and welfare of ordinary citizens.
The AAC maintained that Nigeria’s persistent security challenges are not due to a lack of capacity but a lack of political will to protect lives.
“Nigeria does not lack capacity; it lacks commitment to the lives of its own people,” the party stated.
The party urged Nigerians to resist what it described as continued neglect by the government, calling for coordinated civic action to reclaim the country.
It also expressed solidarity with the people of the Republic of Benin and condemned any attempts to destabilise neighbouring countries.
“Nigeria belongs to its people. The time has come to organise, resist, and take it back,” the AAC declared.
