Kwara State Governor, Malam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, on Monday presented a ₦644 billion budget proposal to the Kwara State House of Assembly for the 2026 fiscal year.
The total budget size stands at ₦644,004,816,893, with 65.98 per cent allocated to capital expenditure, while 34.02 per cent is earmarked for recurrent spending.
Presenting the appropriation bill, Governor Abdulrazaq said the spending plan reflects the direction of his administration in the coming year, with emphasis on the completion of ongoing projects and investments in critical areas such as security hardware, vehicles and technology to strengthen responses to kidnapping and other criminal activities.

Tagged “The Budget of Consolidation and Sustained Growth,” the governor said the fiscal framework is premised on a national economic outlook that assumes an oil price benchmark of 64.85 dollars per barrel, daily oil production of 1.84 million barrels, an exchange rate of ₦1,400 to one US dollar, and a GDP growth rate of 4.68 per cent.
He expressed confidence that the projects captured in the budget, when completed, would expand the state’s economic base, create a more business-friendly environment, generate jobs and promote sustainable development, while freeing resources to deepen social protection for the poor.
“Our budget has never been a mere proposal. It has consistently delivered on our promise to leave Kwara far better than we met it, including restoring its place as a leading state in the country,” the governor said.
Abdulrazaq disclosed that in the outgoing year, the state government completed 38 roads covering 108 kilometres, as well as 29 interlock access lanes across the state, adding that 264.202 kilometres of roads are currently at various stages of completion across the three senatorial districts.
He further noted that the Innovation Hub has been completed, boosting the state’s tech economy by over 20 million dollars, while significant progress has been recorded on key projects including the Kwara Hotel, International Conference Centre, Patigi Regatta Motel, Dada Pottery, Shea Butter factories, Shonga ICT Complex, Prototype Primary School Adeta, Revenue House, Indoor Sports Hall, Senator Oluremi Tinubu Hospital and investments in agriculture across multiple value chains.
The governor added that notable achievements were also recorded in the education, water and health sectors, stressing that both campuses of the Kwara State University in Osi and Ilesha Baruba have been completed, thereby expanding access to tertiary education.
Describing the 2026 budget as crucial to the legacy of his administration, Abdulrazaq urged the House of Assembly to expedite legislative action on the proposal.
In his response, the Speaker of the House, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, commended the governor for the achievements recorded so far and assured that the lawmakers would give the appropriation bill speedy consideration and passage.
