The Abia State Government has dismissed reports claiming that Governor Alex Otti has defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The clarification follows social media posts by some individuals from the state who circulated a picture of Governor Otti during a recent visit to Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah—just days before Mbah’s defection to the APC.
They alleged that the visit was part of Otti’s plan to join the ruling party.

Reacting to the claims, the Abia State Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, in a statement on Monday, described the reports as “a fabrication by political propagandists.”
“Governor Alex Otti remains a committed and proud member of the Labour Party—the platform under which the good people of Abia overwhelmingly elected him to serve,” Kanu stated.
He reaffirmed that the governor’s focus remains on rebuilding Abia, restoring accountability, and delivering democratic dividends to citizens.
Kanu urged members of the public to disregard the report, describing it as “cheap political propaganda” aimed at distracting the government from its development agenda.
