The 2012 Orange CAF Confederation Cup winners AC leopards of Dolisie are in Kigali for this weekend’s second leg of Champions League match against Rayon Sports to be played Saturday 15th February at the national stadium Amahoro in Kigali,
The first leg match ended with a goalless draw. Rayon sports is the most popular team in Rwanda with around 65% of football fans in the country of a thousand hills, put their chances to eliminate one of the giants of Africa on his population support.
Rayon is coach by Luc Eymael and the Belgian believes his team has a great task to eliminate the 2012 Confederation Cup winners. If the Rwandans dream become reality, it will not be a first in country as two scenarios that looked almost impossible occurred here previously in Rwandan football in the continental competitions.
In 1994 Rayon sports had eliminated Al Hilal of sudan in the Cup winners Cup, before being knocked out in the 1/4 final by Kenya Brewaries (now Tusker FC) when Rwanda was in the 1994 genocide. Defeated 1-0 in Sudan, the return tie in Kigali resulted in an overwhelming victory 4-1 for Rayon sports.
In 2004 APR FC beat and eliminated Zamalek of Cairo with a score 4-1.
In the capital Kigali, Supporters are thus believing in another Rwandese major win but the fear also is not to be excluded because in 2011, AC leopards has managed to eliminate one Rwandan club Etincelles FC after a 0-0 in Congo, AC leopards won the return match in Rwanda on a 2-0 score, it was in the CAF Confederation Cup.
The blue-white Rayon sports are participating into CAF Champions league for the first time since 2005, need a victory of any kind to advance to the next round.
