The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has criticized the Presidency for suggesting that President Bola Tinubu would remain in power until 2031.
The forum advised the Tinubu administration to prioritize delivering good governance to Nigerians rather than focusing on the 2027 presidential election.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, had on Sunday urged northern political leaders aspiring to contest the 2027 presidential election to defer their ambitions until 2031.
Akume, during a TVC program, argued that Tinubu, as a southerner, should be allowed a second term, implying that northern candidates should wait until the completion of Tinubu’s presumed second tenure.
Responding to Akume’s remarks, ACF National Publicity Secretary, Prof. Tukur Muhammad-Baba, described it as premature to begin discussions about the 2027 elections.
He emphasized that the forum remains non-partisan and is primarily focused on the welfare of Nigerians.
“It is far too early to delve into debates about the 2027 elections,” Muhammad-Baba stated.
“The ACF will not take a partisan stance on who should or should not be supported. Our main concern is the wellbeing of the electorate.”
The forum’s position reflects growing calls for the government to focus on addressing pressing national challenges instead of political projections.
