The Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, has urged residents of Northern Nigeria to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise to secure their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The State Chairman of the Forum in Jigawa, Aminu Dalhatu, made the appeal during the inauguration of the Forum’s 27 local government chapters in Dutse. He expressed concern over what he described as widespread voter registration apathy across the region.
Dalhatu lamented the declining state of education in the North, noting that the backwardness had set the region “several years behind” in national development indicators.

He said the low turnout for the voter registration exercise was unacceptable, stressing that active political participation was crucial to safeguarding the interests of the region.
“We are concerned about the apathy of northerners toward the ongoing voter registration exercise ahead of the 2027 general elections,” he said.
The ACF chairman urged residents to take the process seriously, insisting that massive participation was necessary to protect the political and socio-economic interests of the North.
He also called for intensified enlightenment campaigns, noting that many eligible voters had either come of age within the last four years or relocated and needed to update their registration details.
“But you’ll agree with me that the turnout in Jigawa is far from satisfactory,” Dalhatu said. “We stress the need for public enlightenment so that we, as a body, can complement government efforts in this direction.”
The Forum reaffirmed its commitment to mobilising communities across the North to ensure higher voter participation before the 2027 elections.
