Athan Achonu, who ran for governor of Imo State as a candidate for the Labour Party (LP) in the election that was just held and is now complete, has demanded that the results of the vote be overturned.
The candidate for the Labour Party (LP) accused members of the security apparatus of working in concert with the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party currently in power, to influence the outcome of the election.
Achonu further pledged that he would seek restitution through the legal system if he was wronged.

The candidate for governor of the LP made allegations that voters and members of his party were subjected to intimidation and harassment during the election. He also stated that the result that was announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, does not accurately reflect what actually took place at the polling stations.
This was something that Achonu shared with the press on Sunday while he was at his house in the country.
In addition, he stated that, in contrast to the pre-election guarantees provided by INEC, voting took place in a variety of locations that were not accredited by BVAS.
According to him, “recorded evidences abound, such as that of a police officer who was beaten by voters for attempting to snatch a ballot box.” He was referring to the incident in which the officer tried to steal the ballot box.
He made the following proclamation: “Today is a very sad day for democracy, for good governance, for equal opportunity, and for freedom of choice.
The security agencies of this nation committed violations of our democracy yesterday. This morning, I am still in the process of recovering from the significant shock.
It wasn’t INEC; it was more of a security agency coup, and they raped our democracy in the process. “Our democracy was raped by the DSS, Police, and Military.”
There was no election held yesterday, and we are requesting that the alleged results be cancelled by the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu. “Let’s save our country and her democracy; let’s save the drift into anarchy;”
