Eight members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Adamawa State House of Assembly have resigned their membership of the party, deepening the wave of defections rocking the legislature.
The Speaker, Bathiya Wesley, was among the lawmakers who announced their defection during plenary on Wednesday. The development marks the third consecutive day of defections after one lawmaker left on Monday, February 23, and six others followed on Tuesday, February 24.

Those who defected alongside the Speaker include Moses Yerima Zah, representing Michika Constituency; and Kate Raymond Mamuno, representing Demsa Local Government Area and serving as the House Majority Leader.
Others are Pwamwakeno Mackondo (Numan), Adun John Alaba (Uba Gaya), Bulus Kantom (Shelleng), Musa Mahmud Kallamu (Mayo Belwa) and Japhet Hammanjabu (Verre).
The lawmakers said their decision was prompted by the lingering crisis within the PDP at the national level, citing similar reasons given by earlier defectors.
The latest wave of resignations had been anticipated, as voices within the party’s state leadership had earlier hinted that several prominent PDP figures might leave the party.
The development comes amid speculation that the state governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, may also be considering a move to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
